Two brave dogs saved their owners during the 9/11 attacks

On the tragic morning of September 11, 2001, two guide dogs, Salty and Roselle, were at the World Trade Center in New York City with their owners. When the towers were struck and began to collapse, chaos and fear swept through the building. But in the midst of the disaster, these two dogs remained calm, focused, and loyal.

Salty and Roselle were on the 70th floor when the attack happened. Amidst smoke, fire, and panic, they bravely led their owners β€” both of whom were blind β€” and helped guide many others through the dark and crowded stairwells. Step by step, they made their way down more than 1,300 stairs to reach the ground safely.

Their determination and courage never wavered, even as the building shook and the danger grew. Thanks to their instincts, training, and unshakable loyalty, not only were their owners saved, but also several people who followed them to safety. They became symbols of hope and bravery in one of the darkest days in history.

For their heroic actions, both Salty and Roselle were honored with awards and global recognition. Their story reminds us that true heroes don’t always wear uniforms β€” sometimes, they walk on four paws and lead with love, even through the flames.
