The eternal friendship between orangutans and dogs

Roscoe, a hound dog, was rescued and brought to the Myrtle Beach Safari animal center in South Carolina, USA. Scared and uncertain in his new surroundings, Roscoe wasn’t sure what to expect — until Suryia, an orangutan living at the center, walked right up to him. Against all odds, the two animals connected instantly.

Suryia, known for her gentle and playful nature, became Roscoe’s first and closest friend. They quickly grew inseparable, spending hours every day playing together, lounging in the sun, and sharing quiet moments. Despite being from completely different species, their bond was natural and full of warmth.

What made their friendship even more heartwarming was how Suryia would take Roscoe on walks — holding his leash and leading the way, as if she had always been his companion. Their deep trust and affection brought joy to everyone at the center and left visitors in awe.

Their story touched so many hearts that it became the subject of a beautiful photo book, celebrating the unlikely and unconditional friendship between a dog and an orangutan. Roscoe and Suryia remind us that love needs no words, and true friendship knows no boundaries.
