Kindness Shouldn’t Cost a Job

When I read the story of the lunch lady who was fired for giving free meals to hungry children, I felt both shocked and heartbroken. She had worked at the school for 14 years, not just serving food, but showing care and love to students. Her only “mistake” was showing kindness to kids who couldn’t afford lunch — children who may have depended on her for their only real meal of the day.

This story made me feel deeply sad and angry. How can someone lose their job for doing something so human and compassionate? It’s hard to understand how rules can be more important than feeding a hungry child. I believe that in situations like this, kindness should be rewarded, not punished.

This story shows how some systems and policies can forget the people they are meant to serve. Rules are important, but they should not be more important than a child’s basic need for food. It reminded me that while we try to follow rules, we should never lose sight of empathy and humanity. The lunch lady did what she believed was right — and I admire her for that.

I think this woman is a quiet hero. In a world where many people turn away from problems, she chose to care. If I were in her place, I hope I would have the courage to do the same. No one should ever be punished for helping others — especially when it comes to feeding hungry children. Her story reminds me that doing the right thing is not always easy, but it’s always worth it.
